What goes where: batteries
Correct bin: Neither bin. Drop off at Bunnings or a council facility..
Batteries can cause fires in both collection trucks and at sorting facilities. Bunnings stores, some councils, and battery retailers accept used batteries for safe recycling.
Avoid: Don't put batteries in any kerbside bin, not even the general waste bin.
Frequently asked questions
How often is recycling collected in Paradise Point?
Gold Coast City collects recycling fortnightly, alternating with the garden organics bin. The typical Paradise Point collection day is Friday, and an address search shows which fortnight you are in right now.
Can I recycle pizza boxes?
A clean, dry pizza box is fine in the yellow bin. If the base is soaked with grease, tear off and recycle the clean lid and put the greasy half in general waste. This rule is the same across every QLD council, Gold Coast City included.
Why does my neighbour in Paradise Point have a different bin day?
Collection routes are planned street by street, so two nearby addresses can sit on different runs, and near a boundary they can even sit in different councils. In Paradise Point that mostly means Friday, though streets near a zone boundary can differ. Confirm with your own address rather than copying the neighbours.

Quick tips for bin night
- Caps off, lids on. Small plastic caps come off the bottle and go in the red bin. Metal lids on glass jars can stay put. It is a small rule that trips up a lot of people.
- Summer bins need managing. A Paradise Point red bin in January is a different beast. Bag food scraps tight, keep the bin in shade if you can, and get it out every single week even when it is barely half full.
- Set a reminder now. Missed bin night in Paradise Point means a two week wait for the fortnightly bins. One recurring Friday evening reminder costs you nothing. The two week smell costs something.
