Bin Night Tonight Councils Coverage Guides About Privacy Contact

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026

The short version

Bin Night Tonight is built to need as little information about you as possible. We do not ask you to register. We do not collect or store your name, email, phone number, or street address on our servers. We do not sell data to third parties because we have no useful data to sell.

If you want a one-line summary: the site sends your address to your council's waste system for the duration of a single lookup and forgets about it afterwards.

What information the site handles

Your street address

When you search, your address is sent to two services: the OpenStreetMap Nominatim API (for autocomplete) and your local council's waste system (to look up the bin schedule). We do not store the address on our own servers between requests. The lookup happens, the answer comes back, and the address is discarded.

If you choose to save an address for next time, it is saved in your browser's local storage. Local storage stays on your device. We can't read it. If you clear your browser data, you delete it; you can also use the in-app remove button.

Page visits

The site uses Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to count page views and measure load times. These services record aggregated data only: pages visited, country-level location, broad device type, and load performance metrics. They do not use cookies and do not build a profile of you.

Error reports

When the site encounters an unexpected error, we send a sanitised error report to Sentry so we can fix it. These reports include the URL, the type of error, and a stack trace. They do not include your address, IP address, or any identifying information.

Cookies and similar technologies

Bin Night Tonight does not set any first-party tracking cookies. Local storage is used to keep your saved addresses on your device. There are no analytics cookies and no advertising cookies set directly by us.

Google AdSense, which displays the banner advertisement on the results screen, may set its own cookies and use device identifiers to personalise ads. You can control how Google uses this data through your Google ad settings. Cloudflare Turnstile, which we use to deter automated abuse on the address lookup, may also set a short-lived challenge cookie.

Third-party services we rely on

  • OpenStreetMap Nominatim: address autocomplete. Receives a partial address string while you type.
  • Your local council's waste system: receives the full address to return a bin schedule.
  • Vercel: hosts the site and handles analytics and performance monitoring.
  • Sentry: receives sanitised error reports.
  • Google AdSense: serves a banner advertisement on the results screen.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile: bot protection on the address lookup.

Each of these services has its own privacy policy and handles data according to its own terms. We don't share anything with them beyond what's strictly required to make the site work.

Your choices

You can use the site without saving any addresses. If you don't want to use it at all, simply don't visit. If you've saved addresses and want them gone, you can remove them individually in the Settings screen, or clear your browser's local storage for our domain to remove all at once.

For ad personalisation choices, use Google's ad settings page. For broader opt-outs from interest-based advertising in Australia, see YourAdChoices.com.au.

Children

The service is intended for general household use. We don't knowingly collect any information from children, and the site doesn't have features that would be of particular interest to children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the service handles information, we'll update this page and bump the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes will also be noted on the homepage for at least 30 days.
