How bin collection works in Queensland

Most Queensland councils run a weekly general waste collection with fortnightly recycling. Green organics bins are common in South East Queensland but are often opt-in rather than standard, and full FOGO services that accept food waste are still less widespread than in the southern states.

Queensland runs the Containers for Change scheme, refunding 10 cents per eligible drink container. In many regional and remote councils, transfer stations and tip vouchers play a bigger role than kerbside services, and some very remote shires have no kerbside collection at all.

Kerbside large item collections vary widely. Brisbane City runs scheduled kerbside collection rounds by suburb, while many other councils rely on booked collections or free tip days.
